Who am I and why am I doing this?
My name is Bob Kerwin and I make music. I play saxophone, primarily jazz. At bobkerwinmusic.com, you can learn more about me, listen to samples of my music, and even hire my band!
Why do I produce the jazz calendar? First, a bit of history. As far as I know, the original Madison Jazz Calendar was started by Larry Hancock, a WORT DJ also known as Uncle Larry. For two decades he commuted from Milwaukee to do his Crazeology show every Sat from 12am to 6am. In 2009 he suddenly collapsed and died. Tragically, he was just 48.
When no one continued Larry’s calendar I began my own and posted it on Madison Jazz, a website promoting the local scene that I had started a year earlier. It was popular and I kept it up for 5-6 years until several jazz organizations stepped in to produce similar calendars.
It’s back now because these organizations are undergoing change and it’s unclear what will happen to their calendars. Besides, working on the calendar keeps me on top of the scene, excited and appreciative of all the local jazz offerings. Because of the calendar I end up going to more shows. Maybe you will, too.
Errors & Omissions
The Madison Jazz Calendar is aggregated from existing calendars, websites, and personal sources. While the goal is to be complete and reliable, events can suddenly change and rare errors may occur. It is wise to call ahead and confirm. If you do spot an omission or error please notify me through the contact page.
Likewise, if the site isn’t functioning properly for you please let me know so I can address it. Thanks!
