Tony Castañeda Latin Jazz Band

Wisconsin’s Premier Latin Jazz Band for over 20 years, Tony Castañeda and his band have been honoring and keeping alive the music of what some call the “Golden Age of Latin Jazz”. Winner of 14 Isthmus Madison’s Favorite Jazz Band annual awards, The Tony Castañeda Latin Jazz Band has opened for legendary Latin jazz artists such as Poncho Sanchez, John Santos, Giovanni Hidalgo, and John Benitez.  Performing congas, bongos and vocals, Tony Castañeda is a percussionist, radio host, an advocate for social justice who’s worked in youth counseling and housing issues, and just generally a guy with a big personality and a decades-long history here in Madison. The Tony Castañeda Latin Jazz Band play frequently around town and started more than 20 years ago as Castañeda was winding down his earlier band, Olmeca, which blended elements of Chicano music, psychedelic rock and jazz fusion.

Victor Garcia

GRAMMY-NOMINATED VICTOR GARCIA IS A MUSICAL FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH.

Examiner.com’s Neil Tesser calls him “one of the most exciting young musicians.” Chicago Tribune’s Howard Reich says that he “stands out as an ebullient soloist offering a formidable technique and a radiantly polished tone.” JazzChicago.net’s Brad Walseth regards him as a “young lion trumpeter.”

He’s as versatile as he is creative. His trumpet talent heralds his international acclaim. He also sings, plays percussion, and his songwriting, arrangements and charts have led him to professorial positions at Roosevelt University, Loyola University and the University of Illinois in Chicago.

The lineup of greats he’s performed with speaks for itself: Aretha Franklin, Arturo Sandoval, Spoon, Monty Alexander, Wynton Marsalis, Victor Manuelle, Nicholas Payton, La India, the Temptations, Steve Turre, BeBe Winans, Tito Puente, Jr., Paquito d’Rivera, Randy Brecker, Branford Marsalis, and Dr. John.
