North Street Cabaret Jazz Jam

The North Street Cabaret jazz jam is created to celebrate and explore jazz. We welcome all of it: the standards, the improvised, the free, and the tangential genres: Bossa, R&B, Funk, Folk, Rap, if you call it, we’ll try it out.

This space holds a special place in our heart, as it is where most of members of Feestet met when the North Street Cabaret hosted the New Breed Jazz Jam (RIP). All folks are welcome to listen, join in, or enjoy a drink with some friends—the important thing is that we ignore the Sunday scaries for a bit and still get home at a reasonable hour.

When and Where?

Second Sundays at the North Street Cabaret, 610 North Street, Madison WI 53704.

7pm House Band & Signups, 8pm Jam Begins

Feestet will play the latest and greatest from their repertoire to warm up the stage and the signup sheet will get passed around. The jam will start by 8PM.

Any Instrument, Any Style

Got a saxophone, guitar, flute, or even a didgeridoo? Awesome! We welcome all instruments. The more variety, the better the jam. North Street Cabaret has a drum kit and a lovely piano, and we’ll provide amps, so no worries on hauling any big stuff.

Charts or Improv, It’s All Good

Call a standard, and if we don’t know it, we’ll invite anyone else up who does. If you’ve got a chart you want to share, bring it along. If you prefer to just go with the flow and improvise, that’s cool too. We love both structured tunes and spontaneous creativity.

Whether you’re into straight-ahead, the atmospheric sounds of ECM, or the driving thumps of hard bop, you’ll find a place here.
