Your Guide to the Local Jazz Scene
This jam happens every Thursday, outside on the terrace in nice weather and inside otherwise. A house rhythm section is usually provided.
This week, we’re having two distinct jams: early jazz from 4-5:15, and classic/ midcentury to modern jazz from 5:30-7.
The early jazz jam will include blues/ New Orleans/ early Tin Pan Alley: tunes that drew on earlier chord and melodic scripts. If you haven’t studied a lot of jazz or are just learning (or like me, just love this era of music), this may be most interesting for you. It will be a looser jam than the later one.
Songs I had in mind include:
St. Louis Blues
Closer Walk with Thee
Melancholy Baby
It’s a Sin to Tell a Lie
Basin St. Blues
You Made Me Love You
Classic/mid-century jam 5:30-7 will be more open to musical suggestion but a with fewer solos and players per tune.
You may choose to play in one or the other or both, depending on your strengths and interests. I hope you can make it.
