Madison Jazz Jam (MJJ) is a nonprofit that runs an all-ages, twice monthly jam. Although I’m no longer affiliated with the jam, (I founded it and ran it for 7 years) I support it’s mission and follow it with interest. This year MJJ is holding two different programs:
- A jazz jam from 6-9 pm on the 4th Thursday of every month at COPA, 2841 Index Road, Fitchburg, WI. The building looks like a warehouse on the outside, but is nice inside. Jammers, friends, family, and the general public are all invited. It is not a bar or restaurant so BYO food and drink. No cover, donations encouraged. Although location and time info is out of date in spots, the Madison Jazz Jam website is still a good source for more info about how the jam works.
- A workshop from 6-9 pm on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Arts and Literature Lab, 111 S. Livingston St. #100 Madison, WI.
January’s Afro Cuban workshop was rescheduled to February 8th. Per their newsletter, ” Learn how to play percussion, and all elements of this music. Singing and dancing will be encouraged.”
Other upcoming workshops are:
- March 8th the music of Herbie Hancock with Chad McCullough & UW Blue Note Ensemble
- April 12 the latin music of Chick Corea with Rodrigo Villanueva and NIU graduate jazz combo.
